Goa attracted over one crore tourists in 2025, with its tourism and hospitality sector contributing an estimated 16-17 percent to the state’s economy, according to www.aninews.in. This surge is fostering new youth employment avenues and entrepreneurship opportunities across the region.

Hospitality Sector Plans Skill Development Centre

Hospitality companies in Goa, including IHCL, are addressing rising demand for skilled workers by planning a major skill development centre. Ranjit Philipose, Senior Vice-President – Operations at IHCL, Goa, stated, “We want to establish a major skill development centre in Goa, with residential facilities for young people who have completed Class 10 or 12. They will receive training and certification

to make them employment-ready.” This initiative aims to prepare local youth for sustained employment within the expanding tourism industry.

Tourism Supports Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

Local entrepreneurs are benefiting directly from the tourism boom. Arvind, who began with a small tea stall, credits tourism for improving his financial condition. He said, “Earlier, we were ordinary workers, but now we have become entrepreneurs. Our financial situation has improved considerably, and we are earning well. Business is also doing well.” Small businesses selling handicrafts, souvenirs, and environmentally sustainable products are growing with tourist demand. Local shopkeeper Mohammed Shafiuddin Sheikh noted, “These are environmentally friendly and sustainable products that

offer a better alternative to plastic items. We sell souvenirs, bags and various useful products so that customers have a wide range of options.”

Expansion of Diverse Tourism-Related Jobs

Goa’s tourism sector supports a broad range of roles beyond traditional hospitality jobs. Employment opportunities have expanded to guides, photographers, beach lifeguards, and other service providers. The increased visitor numbers have enabled new livelihood sources tied to sustaining tourism activities and local economic growth.

Tourists continue to be drawn by Goa’s beaches, cuisine, shopping, and cultural experiences. These attractions maintain demand for diverse local services and contribute to the economic vitality fueled by tourism growth.
