American Airlines and Southwest Airlines together recorded over 1,400 flight delays at multiple U.S. airports on October 23, 2026, according to FlightAware data.
Delays at Dallas Airports Linked to Technical Issues at American Airlines
As of 2:05 p.m. CDT, American Airlines had delayed more than 200 flights at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), where it is the dominant carrier. Southwest Airlines reported approximately 70 delayed flights combined at DFW and Dallas Love Field airports by the same time. Flights outside Dallas also contributed to the nationwide total.
American Airlines attributed its delays to a vendor technology issue impacting customers’ ability to book tickets and check in. The airline stated, “A
vendor issue is affecting some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights.” The airline worked with its technology provider to resolve the outage, which was declared resolved by 2:30 p.m., and systems were reported to be operating normally.
Southwest Airlines Delays Unrelated to American’s Technical Problems
Southwest Airlines confirmed that its flight delays at DFW and Love Field were not connected to the technology outage experienced by American Airlines. Southwest’s operational challenges at these airports persisted independently of American’s vendor issue, according to statements reported by Dallas News.
American Airlines advised customers traveling on October 23 to arrive early at airports due to the disruptions. Southwest
did not link its delay causes to any technical failures similar to American’s. Both airlines’ combined delays have contributed to extensive travel disruptions across U.S. airports today.
