San Francisco International Airport (SFO) saw 457 flights delayed and eight canceled on October 10, 2026, with delays averaging 57 minutes and some extending up to 10 hours. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented a ground delay program at SFO that remained in place through 11:59 p.m. that day.

Staffing Constraints and Fog Disrupt Fleet Week Operations

The FAA attributed the flight restrictions to air traffic control staffing shortages linked to the city’s Fleet Week air show, which affected both arriving and departing flights at SFO. The ground delay program regulated arrival rates between 36 to 45 aircraft per hour during the period. The Navy Blue Angels began

their air demonstration near 4 p.m. but had to cut short the routine due to fog and poor visibility over San Francisco Bay.

Passenger Impact and Advisories

Travelers passing through San Francisco International Airport faced considerable wait times as flights encountered significant delays. Passengers affected by the disruptions were advised to verify their flight status directly with their respective airlines to obtain the most current departure and arrival information.

Fleet Week Air Show Schedule

The Fleet Week air shows, showcasing military and civilian aircraft flying along the waterfront, continued through the weekend of October 10–11, 2026. The Navy Blue Angels were scheduled to perform on both Saturday and Sunday

afternoons following the curtailed show on the opening day.
