Fire near Stratford station disrupts London rail services with 1,400 evacuated

A fire erupted near the tracks close to Stratford station in London, triggering the deployment of eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to extinguish flames involving trees and shrubbery beside the railway line. Approximately 1,400 passengers were evacuated from trains as services were halted outside the station on July 10, 2026.

Elizabeth Line trains have resumed running through Stratford but are affected by cancellations, delays, and alterations. Greater Anglia routes passing through Stratford remain severely disrupted across all services, operating at a

reduced capacity during repair works. London Overground services face severe delays on the Mildmay line and a partial suspension between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction, impacting connections across London.

Network Rail response and repair efforts

Network Rail engineers have evaluated damage to infrastructure caused by the fire, including signaling and telecommunications equipment. Repair crews are working to restore systems quickly to normal operation. Due to ongoing repairs, Greater Anglia operates a limited number of trains via Stratford, with expectations that these services will be busier than usual. Stratford station remains closed as

a result of the fire incident, with National Rail warning that disruptions are likely to continue until at least 6 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026. Rail passengers have been advised to avoid traveling through Stratford where possible and to verify service status before setting out to mitigate inconvenience caused by the cancellations and delays.
