A false fire alarm at Karanga-a-Hape train station on October 19, 2026, led to the closure of stations on Auckland’s City Rail Link network early that morning. The alarm triggered emergency protocols and caused widespread disruptions and timetable disturbances across the network.

Later the same day, a trespasser on the tracks at Waitematā station caused further delays and cancellations of City Rail Link services. Auckland Transport issued a statement via the AT Mobile app detailing the impact on train schedules caused by the trespasser incident.

The trespasser-related message was removed shortly after 3pm as trains began returning to normal operations.

Auckland Councillor Richard Hills said, “The AT app says a trespasser, I assume on the tracks caused the issue but it’s been resolved and trains returning to normal.”

Both incidents disrupted Auckland’s City Rail Link network, interrupting regular service and causing inconvenience to commuters throughout October 19, 2026.
