The Federal Aviation Administration initiated a temporary flight restriction at 7:59 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, enforcing a drone ban and limiting private flights within a 30-nautical-mile radius of Palm Beach, Florida. This restricted airspace extends vertically up to 17,999 feet above sea level and covers communities from southern Martin County to the Pompano Beach area, including Jupiter, West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and Boca Raton. The restriction is scheduled to end at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Within a 10-nautical-mile radius of Palm Beach, which includes Palm Beach International Airport (also known as Donald

J. Trump International Airport) and Palm Beach County Park Airport, private and general aviation flights are fully prohibited. The outer area between 10 and 30 nautical miles allows limited private and general aviation operations under strict requirements, including active instrument flight rules or filed visual flight rules plans, assigned transponder codes, and two-way radio communication with air traffic control. The FAA notice governing the restriction is identified as NOTAM 6/3803.

Heightened Security Measures at Mar-a-Lago and Palm Beach International Airport

The security perimeter around Mar-a-Lago and Palm Beach International Airport has increased significantly during the restriction period. Advanced radar systems are installed atop the Southern Boulevard Bridge, and air-defense equipment

has been deployed on a nearby barge. Additionally, three launchers presumed to be Avenger air-defense systems equipped with Stinger missiles have been positioned at the airport, according to former Navy fighter pilot Matthew “Whiz” Buckley. The U.S. Secret Service requested military counter-drone support amid a heightened threat environment but reported no specific threat. On the ground, South Ocean Boulevard (State Road A1A) is closed between South County Road and Southern Boulevard, with controlled checkpoint access for residents and service providers.

Private Aviation Restrictions and TSA Screening Requirements

General aviation and private aircraft face strict limits in the restricted area. Flights are prohibited within the 10-nautical-mile inner ring,

affecting operations at Palm Beach International and Palm Beach County Park Airports. Two exemptions for arrivals and departures exist at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and Witham Field in Stuart. Between 10 and 30 nautical miles, flights must meet operational criteria including active flight plans and continuous communication with air traffic control; loitering is not permitted.

Private aircraft using Palm Beach International Airport must undergo TSA screening. Registration for this screening is mandatory at least 24 hours before departure. TSA screening at Palm Beach International is available only on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and not offered on Friday

or Sunday. Eligible gateway airports for this screening process include Palm Beach, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Dulles, Teterboro, and Westchester County.

Impact on Scheduled Commercial Flights and Air Traffic Control

Scheduled commercial passenger and cargo flights are allowed to operate within the restricted airspace if they comply with security protocols. Palm Beach International Airport will not automatically cease airline service during the temporary flight restriction; however, delays may occur, particularly on Sunday when former President Donald J. Trump is expected to depart Mar-a-Lago for campaign stops in Kansas and Iowa. Broader air traffic control may further affect flights traversing the larger restricted area. Passengers are urged to verify flight information

directly with airlines as no specific cancellations or delays have been publicly detailed.

Context of Restrictions and Enforcement Measures

The temporary airspace restrictions and security intensifications respond to former President Trump’s presence at Mar-a-Lago, with the Secret Service citing a heightened threat environment. Though there is no specific known threat, the Secret Service’s request for military counter-drone assistance reflects increased precautionary security. Recent media reports have discussed potential renewed U.S. military actions involving Iran, but officials state these reports are unrelated to the Palm Beach security measures.

The FAA warns that violations of the temporary flight restrictions, including unauthorized drone operations or unauthorized flights within the

30-nautical-mile zone, may lead to enforcement actions such as fines or certificate suspension or revocation. Authorities emphasize that all private and general aviation pilots must comply with FAA rules and the TSA screening process during this period.
