A man fell overboard from the Ambassador Cruise Lines vessel MS Ambition on 21 August 2026 at approximately 08:35, about 36 nautical miles from Arbroath in the North Sea off Scotland’s east coast.
Search operation involving multiple agencies
Following the report, a search and rescue operation was promptly launched. Lifeboat crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry joined coastguard teams based in Dundee, Arbroath, and St Andrews. Aerial support included coastguard aircraft from Prestwick and Carlisle, along with a commercial search and rescue helicopter assisting in the search effort.
Recovery and ship docking details
The search ended with the recovery of the man’s body. Police Scotland confirmed that the missing man’s
family had been notified, with formal identification still pending. The MS Ambition docked in Dundee on 21 August 2026 after previously stopping in Lerwick. Passengers were initially prevented from disembarking but were allowed to leave the ship at about 11:30. Passenger luggage remained onboard, and the man’s bed was reported as not having been slept in. Later that evening, the ship departed Dundee for Newcastle.

A search and rescue operation, carried out by police and partner agencies, has been ongoing and a body has been recovered.”
