A fire near Clapham Junction on 27 September 2026 damaged railway signalling equipment, disrupting Southern and Gatwick Express services to London Victoria. Delays, cancellations, and reduced services are expected until at least 4pm on 28 September.

Avanti West Coast rail services will return to public ownership on 7 March 2027, the UK Government announced. The government will also explore state ownership of new trains to cut leasing costs.

Alberta will launch a Request for Proposals in fall 2026 to develop a high-speed rail line connecting Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton. The project targets speeds up to 320 km/h and aims to reduce travel time between the two major cities to about 1 hour 45 minutes.
