More than 1,331 flights within or departing from the United States experienced delays as of 10 a.m. EST on November 7, 2026, with 59 flights canceled, according to live data from FlightAware. Globally, flight delays exceeded 11,413, and 548 cancellations were recorded worldwide.
Weather Conditions Impact Key U.S. Airports
The Federal Aviation Administration identified thunderstorms and low cloud cover as factors contributing to flight disruptions at major airports including Boston Logan International (BOS), New York’s JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), and Newark (EWR), Philadelphia International (PHL), and the Washington, D.C. area airports: Reagan National (DCA), Baltimore-Washington International (BWI), and Dulles International (IAD). Additionally, Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
is facing low cloud-related delays.
Travel Recommendations Amid Disruptions
Travel experts advise passengers to monitor flight statuses through airline websites or apps and enable notifications for gate changes, delays, and cancellations. Those connecting through busy airports are recommended to allow extra time between flights. Passengers should keep critical items within their carry-on luggage to manage potential extended wait times efficiently. Reviewing airline policies regarding refunds and rebooking is also suggested in the event of cancellations or significant delays.
Expert Advice on Handling Flight Cancellations
Eryn Gordon, TedX speaker on ethical and responsible travel and founder of Earth to Editorial, emphasized that travelers should approach cancellations as logistical challenges rather than
emergencies. “A cancellation feels like chaos, but the travelers who come out of it best treat a disruption as a planning problem rather than an emergency. Screenshot the rebooking policy before you leave the house,” she said. Gordon cautioned against instinctively booking the first available seat, advising that doing so could leave travelers stranded overnight at connecting airports with their luggage on separate flights.
Today’s flight disruptions highlight the operational challenges stemming from weather patterns that are impacting multiple eastern U.S. airports concurrently, contributing to widespread delays and cancellations for domestic and international flights.
