Breeze Airways announced six new nonstop flights beginning in late 2026 and mid-2027, taking over routes previously operated by Spirit Airlines. The new service includes international destinations in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the US Virgin Islands.

New Breeze Routes Launching Across Pennsylvania, Florida, and New York

The airline will introduce nonstop flights from Latrobe, Pennsylvania to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina starting February 9, 2027, and to Orlando, Florida beginning May 26, 2027. Breeze will hold a monopoly on these Latrobe routes, restoring air service that ceased after Spirit Airlines shut down in May 2026.

From Tampa International Airport, Breeze Airways will launch nonstop flights to Montego Bay, Jamaica,

and Cancun, Mexico on December 19, 2026. Service to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands begins December 16, 2026, while flights to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic will start June 18, 2027.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport will gain three new nonstop Breeze routes to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina on June 29, 2027; Myrtle Beach on July 1, 2027; and Charleston, South Carolina on July 2, 2027. The Raleigh-Durham flight replaces a Frontier Airlines route that will be discontinued in November 2026.

Breeze Airways’ Growth and Business Model

Breeze Airways operates an Airbus A220-300 fleet serving over 300 routes to 95 cities across the US, Mexico, Central America,

and the Caribbean. Founded in May 2021 by JetBlue establisher David Neeleman, Breeze focuses on connecting underserved city pairs with nonstop flights, rather than competing on routes via major hubs.

The airline was named America’s fastest-growing carrier in Time100’s Most Influential Companies of 2026, increasing flight operations by 41% in early 2026 compared to the previous year.

Spirit Airlines Shutdown and Consequences

Spirit Airlines ceased all operations on May 2, 2026, following a multi-year financial decline and a failed $500 million federal rescue deal. The budget airline had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy twice, in November 2024 and August 2025, managing approximately $8.1 billion in

debt prior to closure.

Spirit’s shutdown left multiple airport routes without service, creating an opportunity for Breeze Airways to restore nonstop flights at affected airports including Latrobe, Tampa, and Buffalo.

Restoring and Expanding Connectivity for Passengers

Passengers flying from Latrobe, Tampa, and Buffalo will gain new nonstop options to domestic and international leisure destinations formerly served by Spirit Airlines. Breeze’s addition of Caribbean and Mexican routes reestablishes direct flights to Montego Bay, Santo Domingo, Cancun, and St. Thomas.

Buffalo travelers retain nonstop connections to Raleigh-Durham, Myrtle Beach, and Charleston despite Frontier discontinuing one of its flights. Breeze’s entry preserves and expands air service to these regions,

maintaining essential travel links post-Spirit closure.
