AmaWaterways has opened reservations for its 2028 cruise season, adding four new river cruise ships along with expanded land extensions across Europe and Africa, according to www.cruisemapper.com. The 2028 programme embraces new itineraries designed to broaden travel options.
New Ships Detail and Operating Routes
The new vessels include AmaMaria, which will sail the Rhine River and accommodate 152 passengers across 76 staterooms. AmaMaria’s design follows the next-generation style developed for its sister ship AmaFiora, scheduled to enter service in April 2027. AmaGaia will serve Portugal’s Douro River. Additionally, two fresh ships will join the existing Douro fleet, increasing capacity alongside AmaDouro and AmaSintra. A further vessel
is planned for Africa’s Chobe River, complementing the chartered Zambezi Queen.
Expansion of Douro Fleet and Extended Season
The addition of two new ships expands AmaWaterways’ presence on Portugal’s Douro River. The company has also announced plans to extend the operating season on the Douro into November and December 2028, offering travelers more schedule flexibility late in the year.
AmaWaterways will also feature cruisetours combining river cruises with land-based travel in its 2028 schedule. The company is broadening its range of itineraries and focusing on destination-centered activities across Europe and Africa.
The introduction of four new ships supports AmaWaterways’ fleet development strategy, which targets capacity growth on
established European routes and an expanded presence in Africa.
