World Travel Market London 2026 took place from November 3 to 5 at ExCeL London amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and evolving global tourism investment priorities. The event followed a record-breaking 2025 gathering, providing a platform to observe contrasting strategies in national tourism promotion.

China Increases Pavilion Size by Nearly 22%

Chinese tourism authorities expanded their exhibition pavilion by almost 22% compared to 2025, involving over 100 tourism enterprises and organizations. This growth illustrates China’s continued strategic emphasis on maintaining international travel trade relations despite geopolitical and economic tensions.

Middle East and North Africa Maintain Strong Presence

Approximately 450 exhibitors from Middle Eastern and North African destinations occupied four exhibition halls. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi

Arabia, and Egypt accounted for significant representation, with the Saudi tourism authority and various industry partners actively participating. Qatar sent a delegation of 40 partners for its 12th consecutive year at WTM London, reflecting ongoing commitment to the global tourism market.

Egypt Premier Partner Status and Visitor Growth

Egypt was designated Premier Partner at WTM London 2026. In 2025, it welcomed nearly 19 million international visitors, a 21% rise over 2024, according to RX, the event organizer. Egypt’s prominent role at the event highlights its focus on maintaining and expanding international tourism engagement despite regional uncertainties.

European and US Participation Levels

Italy’s national tourism agency ENIT occupied more than 2,000 square meters

of exhibition space, representing 15 regions and eight institutions. Other countries with notable participation included Spain, Portugal, and Türkiye. Meanwhile, Germany, France, and the United States had relatively modest exhibitor counts. Germany’s multifaceted tourism promotion system and varied commercial approaches imply that exhibition size alone does not fully reflect investment or market focus.

WTM London 2025 Attendance and Meetings Context

WTM London 2025 recorded a then-unprecedented attendance of 46,500 industry professionals and hosted over 40,000 business meetings. These figures set a benchmark against which the 2026 event’s outcomes and industry engagement can be measured.

New Features in WTM London 2026

The 2026 event expanded programming related to travel technology and introduced paid visitor

registration starting from the booking phase. These changes were designed to enhance business interactions and reflect shifts in how the event engages attendees and exhibitors.

Evolving Strategies in Tourism Promotion Spending

WTM London 2026 underscored contrasting approaches among tourism markets. Some destinations have increased their presence and spending on international exhibitions, while others reassess the value of large national pavilions amid scrutiny of public budgets and changing travel patterns. Smaller tourism enterprises face challenges achieving immediate commercial returns compared to national bodies focused on long-term destination branding.

Varied National Approaches to International Tourism Marketing

National tourism organizations are adopting differing strategies, balancing expenditure on physical exhibition spaces with investments in digital marketing, airline

partnerships, and alternative trade events. The event demonstrated that while some traditional tourism powers maintain their presence at WTM London, others may shift resources toward more targeted promotional methods.
