Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has begun accepting reservations for Norwegian Bella, the sixth and final ship in its Prima-Class series, with sailings scheduled to start in May 2028. The ship will operate seven-night round-trip Mediterranean cruises from the Port of Barcelona.

Ship Size, Capacity, and Construction

Norwegian Bella measures 1,129 feet in length with a gross tonnage of 170,000, tying it with Norwegian Aura as the largest vessels in the NCL fleet. The ship was constructed by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri at their yards in Italy. It will accommodate 3,921 guests at double occupancy and features design input from international architectural firms including AD Associates and

Piero Lissoni.

Mediterranean Itinerary and Ports of Call

The ship’s inaugural itinerary includes ports such as Barcelona, Civitavecchia, which serves as the gateway to Rome, Livorno for Florence and Pisa, Salerno near the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, Marseille in France, and Palma de Mallorca in Spain. These seven-night cruises provide a round-trip experience from the Port of Barcelona, a major European cruise hub.

Onboard Features and Guest Experiences

Norwegian Bella offers an expanded outdoor pool deck that is at least 15% larger than those found on Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna. It features Ocean Heights, a multi-level open-air complex spanning decks 18 to 21, which transitions from a daytime recreational space

to a nighttime social venue with ambient lighting. The ship also has Ocean Boulevard, a wrap-around promenade on deck 8 with enhanced seating, hot tubs, and an outdoor bar.

Family-friendly attractions include waterslides, ropes courses, and dedicated play areas for children and teenagers. For adults, the Vibe Beach Club offers an exclusive infinity hot tub and bar experience. The Haven by Norwegian comprises 159 suites located aft, providing a luxury ship-within-a-ship environment complete with private elevators, a sundeck equipped with an infinity pool and sauna, exclusive dining and bar venues, concierge and butler service, and priority boarding.

Design and Artistic Elements

The hull artwork

on Norwegian Bella was created by Australian contemporary artist George Rose, known for her vibrant botanical murals. Rose described her design as capturing the excitement and movement inspired by travel, intending it to complement the ship’s visits to notable European destinations.

Booking Details and Traveler Considerations

Bookings opened on October 20, 2026, providing an 18-month advance booking window ahead of the ship’s May 2028 debut. Pricing and promotional details remain unpublished at this time. Travelers should note that flights to and from Barcelona El Prat Airport are not included in the cruise fare. Premium accommodations within The Haven typically sell out early, so early reservation

is advised.

Background and Fleet Strategy

Norwegian Bella concludes the Prima-Class fleet expansion that began with Norwegian Prima in 2022. The ship’s design incorporates a 15% larger pool deck and expanded outdoor areas in response to guest feedback on previous Prima-Class vessels, aiming to balance family activities and adult relaxation zones.

Official Statements

Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, called Norwegian Bella “the culmination of our award-winning Prima Class,” emphasizing enhanced outdoor spaces and family-friendly features designed to allow flexible vacation experiences. Artist George Rose said the hull art aimed to reflect “the excitement of exploration and discovery” and added that she looks forward to

the ship visiting Europe’s remarkable destinations.

Market and Industry Context

Norwegian Bella joins Norwegian Aura in delivering Prima-Class experiences to Europe and the Caribbean, respectively. The Port of Barcelona, the ship’s homeport, handled nearly 3.7 million cruise passengers in 2024, ranking as Europe’s busiest cruise home port and third-largest globally. The port is undergoing a terminal capacity reduction program starting 2025 to manage overtourism, coinciding with Norwegian Bella’s inaugural season.
