InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has surpassed 1,000 operating hotels across Europe as of October 2026, following the addition of more than 210 hotels over the past three years. This growth corresponds to a net system size increase exceeding 25%. IHG currently has over 280 additional properties under development across the continent.
Expansion of Brands Across Europe
Since the start of 2024, IHG has recorded 36 brand debuts in various European countries, not including its Ruby brand hotels. The company recently acquired Ruby, a premium urban lifestyle hotel group, and launched its 21st brand, Noted Collection, which has secured seven global signings. These initiatives reflect IHG’s
strategy to widen its portfolio across diverse market segments including luxury, lifestyle, premium, mainstream, and affordable accommodations.
Notable Hotel Additions in Key Cities
The Hari, an 85-room property in London’s Belgravia district near Knightsbridge and Hyde Park, joined the luxury-focused Vignette Collection, expanding that brand’s European presence to 13 operating hotels with 16 more in development. Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille marked the debut of the Ruby brand in France, positioned near Marseille’s historic waterfront. Crowne Plaza Vienna, a 195-room property, expanded IHG’s premium presence in Austria’s capital. Developments have also occurred in Madrid, strengthening IHG’s footprint in major European cities.
Development Approach and Market Strategy
IHG’s European expansion involves a combination
of newly developed hotels, conversions of existing properties, and introducing established brands into new markets. This strategy enables entry into central urban locations where new building development is difficult. The portfolio growth supports all accommodation segments including luxury, lifestyle, premium, mainstream, and affordable brands.
Growth Impact on Loyalty Program and Market Context
IHG One Rewards, the company’s loyalty program with more than 160 million members globally, connects travelers to the expanding brand portfolio across Europe. Europe, projected to see approximately 793 million international arrivals in 2025, is the largest international tourism destination globally, underpinning continued accommodation investment driven by leisure demand, international city breaks, and business travel.
