InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has exceeded 1,000 hotels currently operating across Europe as of October 22, 2026. The company grew its European presence by adding over 210 properties in the last three years, achieving more than 25% net system size growth in the region.
IHG is advancing development on over 280 additional hotels in Europe, spanning categories including luxury, premium, lifestyle, and mainstream accommodation. Since early 2024, 36 IHG brand debuts have occurred in European markets excluding Ruby brand properties. IHG expanded its brand portfolio with the acquisition of Ruby, a premium urban lifestyle hotel company, and launched the Noted
Collection as its 21st hotel brand, which has seven global signings.
Highlighted European Hotels
Notable recent additions include The Hari hotel in London, which joined the Vignette Collection brand. Located in Belgravia near Knightsbridge and Hyde Park, The Hari features 85 rooms. The Vignette Collection now operates 13 hotels in Europe with 16 more underway.
The Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille opened in France as the first Ruby brand property in the country, situated near Marseille’s historic waterfront and central districts. Crowne Plaza Vienna, with 195 rooms, enhances IHG’s premium hotel portfolio in Austria’s capital.
European Tourism Market and Expansion Strategy
Europe remained the world’s largest international tourism destination in
2025 with approximately 793 million international arrivals, accounting for over half of global international tourism activity. Strong leisure demand, business travel, and city breaks support ongoing accommodation investment across major and emerging European destinations.
IHG’s growth strategy includes a mix of newly developed properties, conversions of existing hotels, and brand introductions into new markets. Hotel conversions are particularly important for entering centrally located urban areas where new construction is limited.
Recent development projects include cities such as London, Marseille, Vienna, and Madrid, reflecting this diverse development approach.
Impact on Loyalty Program and Guest Options
The expanding hotel portfolio increases the options available to members of IHG One
Rewards, the company’s global loyalty program with over 160 million members. This growth enhances the variety of destinations and accommodations accessible through the program’s multiple brands.
