Train services across Auckland’s City Rail Link faced delays and cancellations on October 19, 2026, after a false fire alarm was triggered at Karanga-a-Hape train station early that morning. The alarm caused closures of stations along the network, affecting the punctuality of train operations.

Trespasser incident at Waitematā station adds to service disruptions

Later the same day, a separate disruption occurred when a trespasser was reported at Waitematā station. This incident led to additional delays and cancellations on the Auckland train network, compounding the earlier disruptions caused by the false fire alarm.

Official responses and service restoration

Auckland Transport issued a statement via the AT Mobile app regarding the trespasser incident, but the message

was removed shortly after 3pm on October 19. Auckland Councillor Richard Hills confirmed the issue caused by the trespasser was resolved and train services were returning to normal.

The combined effect of the false fire alarm and trespasser incidents resulted in off-schedule train services across Auckland’s rail network. Passengers experienced delays and cancellations during the day, though services began to normalize following the resolution of these events.
