Train services between Shrewsbury and Chester experienced delays on October 14, 2026, due to track buckling reported at 11:02 AM on the rail section between Wrexham and Chester. The disruption lasted from 11:30 AM until 3:00 PM, with some trains delayed up to 60 minutes or cancelled in both directions.
Network Rail and Transport for Wales Response
Network Rail confirmed the issue as a minor track buckling caused by hot weather and dispatched teams to repair the track. A spokesperson stated, “Our teams attended and identified a minor issue with the track. We carried out the necessary work and examined the rail before services were able to
resume at normal line speeds at 13:36.” Transport for Wales also confirmed that normal services resumed following the incident.
Impact on Passengers and Alternative Travel
Train services faced delays of up to 60 minutes or cancellations on the Shrewsbury to Chester route between 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM, preventing passengers from travelling by rail until repairs were completed. Arriva Bus Wales provided free alternative travel on two local bus routes during the disruption to assist affected passengers.
