ZIPAIR, a Japanese low-cost airline wholly owned by Japan Airlines, announced it will begin nonstop service between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Tokyo Narita International Airport in 2027. The route will operate three times weekly year-round, with Narita airport located roughly 60 kilometres east of Tokyo.

Founded in 2018 and launching operations in 2022, ZIPAIR currently flies Boeing 787-8 aircraft to destinations including Vancouver, Seoul, Bangkok, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, and Orlando. The Toronto route will mark ZIPAIR’s second Canadian connection following its 2024 launch of flights from Vancouver to Tokyo.

ZIPAIR employs a low-cost carrier model, offering base

fares that include two pieces of carry-on baggage totaling up to 7 kilograms while charging separately for optional services such as checked baggage and in-flight meals. The airline provides complimentary onboard internet, streaming entertainment accessed via personal devices, and the option to purchase snacks, alcoholic beverages, and duty-free products during the flight.

Currently, Air Canada is the sole provider of nonstop flights from Toronto to Tokyo. Air Canada fares to Tokyo fluctuate significantly with seasonal demand, with higher prices during the peak cherry blossom period from late March to early April. ZIPAIR’s round-trip fares from Vancouver to Tokyo for March

1 to 8, 2027, are approximately $1,052, compared to Air Canada’s roughly $1,661 for the same travel dates.

Toronto Pearson Airport confirmed the new ZIPAIR service on Twitter in October 2026, noting the airline’s upcoming year-round thrice-weekly flights to Tokyo Narita and emphasizing Toronto as ZIPAIR’s second Canadian destination. The airport advised travelers to await further announcements regarding ticket sale dates.

ZIPAIR’s entry into the Toronto-Tokyo market introduces a competitive, low-cost option for Canadian travelers seeking nonstop air service to Japan. The new route will provide more affordable direct access to Tokyo, complementing existing options on this transpacific corridor.
