Air Canada will introduce seven new direct flight routes in summer 2027, including five destinations not currently served. The expansion, operating from Toronto, Vancouver, and Montréal, is expected to generate 1,500 new jobs by 2028 and increase Air Canada’s annual contribution to Canada’s GDP by over $7 billion, according to financialpost.com.

New destinations include Guangzhou, China; Oslo, Norway; Shannon, Ireland; and Nice, France. The airline will also increase service frequencies on key existing markets. Air Canada will extend its presence in China’s Pearl River Delta with year-round flights from Vancouver to Guangzhou, pending government approval. The airline currently operates up

to 24 weekly flights to Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, leading the Canada-mainland China market.

Strategic Growth and Industry Position

Mark Galardo, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, said the summer 2027 launch marks the largest intercontinental expansion in the airline’s history. He emphasized that it secures Air Canada’s status as the second largest North American carrier by the number of global destinations served.

Details on New Routes

From Toronto, Air Canada will begin operating non-stop flights to Oslo, Shannon, and Nice. The Oslo route will be Air Canada’s third in Scandinavia, joining Stockholm and Copenhagen. Air Canada remains the only North American airline with direct flights

to Norway. The service to Shannon will complement existing flights to Dublin, with Shannon being the only non-stop Canada-connection on Ireland’s west coast provided by Air Canada.

The new route from Vancouver to Guangzhou, China’s Guangdong province capital, is pending government approvals. This service will further Air Canada’s leading position in the Canada-mainland China market.

Traveler Benefits

Travellers will gain new direct connections to Guangzhou, Oslo, Shannon, and Nice. Air Canada’s unique market position includes being the sole North American carrier offering non-stop flights to Guangzhou and Norway, as well as non-stop service between Canada and Shannon, Ireland. Additionally, increased flight frequencies

on key routes will provide more options for passengers.
