Thailand will terminate its 60-day visa exemption for travelers from eligible countries on September 15, 2026, and implement new visa-free periods of 30 and 15 days, according to an announcement by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. These changes follow publication in the Royal Thai Government Gazette on August 31, 2026.
Countries Affected and New Visa-Free Periods
The new system grants 30-day visa-free entry to citizens of 60 countries and territories, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, alongside nations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Morocco is excluded from this list and, as a result, Moroccan passport holders will lose eligibility
for the 30-day visa exemption starting September 15, 2026. Previously, Moroccan travelers could enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days.
Additional Visa-Free and Visa-on-Arrival Provisions
Under the revised policy, citizens of Seychelles and Mauritius will be eligible for 15-day visa-free stays. Meanwhile, travelers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Serbia will require visas on arrival to enter Thailand.
Land Border Entry Restrictions and Exemptions
Travelers with 30-day visa exemption status are restricted to entering Thailand via land borders no more than twice annually. Exceptions to this limitation include nationals of Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, and other groups as designated by the relevant ministerial authority.

This overhaul of Thailand’s visa exemption system followed
a government review initiated in May 2026, with updated details published in July 2026. The Tourism Authority of Thailand emphasized that existing bilateral agreements remain effective, allowing visa-free entries ranging from 14 to 90 days depending on the specific agreement. Travelers are advised to verify entry requirements applicable to their nationality before traveling, especially given the new rules taking effect on September 15, 2026.
