The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented a ground stop on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at LaGuardia airport and five other major airports in the Northeast region. The action was taken to manage air traffic amid severe thunderstorms affecting the area.
As a result of the FAA’s ground stop, thousands of flights were disrupted across the affected airports during a peak holiday travel period. American Airlines experienced a significant portion of these delays, leading the widespread travel interruptions today.
