Hill Hall Hotel opened on September 1, 2026, in downtown Fayetteville, West Virginia, featuring 40 boutique guest rooms. The hotel is situated within the restored 1923 school campus and is a member of Design Hotels™ as well as part of the Marriott Bonvoy® loyalty program.
Historic School Campus Restoration and Architectural Design
The hotel occupies the former Fayetteville high school and middle school buildings originally constructed in 1923. Mountain Shore Properties led a comprehensive restoration that preserved the site’s original stone architecture while adapting interiors to provide warm, residential-style guest rooms. Mae Pate, Head of Design at Mountain Shore Properties, directed the design elements. Architect Aric Margolis
from Charleston, West Virginia, served as the architect of record, while David E. Looper & Company was general contractor for the project.
Dining at Patsy’s Restaurant
Hill Hall’s signature restaurant, Patsy’s, was named for Stephen Wendell’s grandmother, Pat “Patsy” Phillips Wendell. The dining venue offers Appalachian-inspired cuisine influenced by family recipes. Executive Chef Jeffrey Toth leads the kitchen, supported by Sous Chef Paul Almond and assistance from Katie and Tennyson Winters, current owners of Fayetteville’s Wood Iron Eatery. Patsy’s is open for dinner from Wednesday through Sunday, 4 to 9 p.m., and serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The beverage program includes Old School Ale, brewed exclusively by Fayetteville’s Bridge Brew Works, alongside cocktails such as the gin-based Mae-tini, The Dogwood with tequila and hibiscus, and The Peeved Bee featuring bourbon and Amaro Nonino.

Hill Hall provides a 24-hour guest pantry, multiple lounges, cozy reading spaces, and coworking access through Ascend WV, located in the former elementary school on the same campus. The hotel partners with local businesses including Gripped Fitness, New River Bikes, New River Mountain Guides, and Mountain Surf Paddle Sports, allowing guests to access fitness facilities, bike rentals, climbing instruction, and stand-up paddleboarding in the
vicinity of New River Gorge National Park.

Stephen Wendell, founder and CEO of Mountain Shore Properties, emphasized the hotel’s role in encouraging longer stays in Fayetteville.
