American Airlines announced it will add seven new international routes in 2027, with all summer services operating daily. Tickets for these routes will be available starting August 31, 2026, via the airline’s website and mobile app.
Philadelphia Gains Three New International Destinations
Philadelphia International Airport will receive new flights to Porto, Portugal; Vienna, Austria; and Reykjavik, Iceland. Flights between Philadelphia and Porto will begin on March 28, 2027, followed by Philadelphia to Vienna starting May 6, and Philadelphia to Reykjavik resuming on May 27. The Vienna service will be seasonal, continuing through early January 2028. American Airlines will be the only U.S. carrier flying to Vienna.
Expanded Service from New York JFK Includes Amsterdam, Nice, and London
From New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, American Airlines will start nonstop flights to Amsterdam on March 28, 2027, and to Nice, France on May 6. Additionally, American will restore a fourth daily flight between JFK and London Heathrow on March 28. Combined with partner British Airways, the two airlines will operate up to 14 daily flights between New York and London.
New and Adjusted Routes from Chicago, Charlotte, and Miami
American Airlines will introduce new service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Tokyo Narita starting March 19, 2027, aiming to meet demand around Japan’s cherry blossom season. A new Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Barcelona route will
launch May 27, establishing Charlotte as the sixth U.S. gateway for American’s flights to Barcelona. Seasonal routes from Charlotte to Paris and Miami International Airport to Milan will begin earlier than usual on March 4, 2027.
American Airlines recently revealed plans to upgrade more than 800 narrowbody aircraft with enhanced entertainment systems featuring 4K displays, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB-C charging ports. This overhaul complements the international route expansion and aims to improve the onboard experience for passengers.
