The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for flights arriving at Denver International Airport on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The directive took effect at 4:32 p.m. local time and applies to departures managed by six FAA Air Route Traffic Control Centers: ZLA, ZLC, ZDV, ZKC, ZAB, and ZMP.

Ground Stop Duration and Weather Conditions

The ground stop was scheduled to remain in place until 6 p.m., with a 30% to 60% chance of extension depending on weather developments. The FAA cited thunderstorms as the cause, with a marginal severe weather risk across parts of Colorado. These conditions include potential high winds and hail, mainly

over mountainous areas and regions north of Interstate 70 (I-70). Additional severe weather is forecast for the Denver metropolitan area and Northeast Colorado later Saturday night.

Impact on Flights and Travelers

The ground stop disrupted flight operations at Denver International Airport, delaying arrivals and departures scheduled during the affected period. The operational pause was intended to enhance safety amid the thunderstorms but resulted in temporary delays at the airport.
