United Airlines will commence the first nonstop scheduled flights linking the New York metropolitan area and Ibiza in summer 2027. The new route will operate four weekly nonstop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Ibiza Airport (IBZ) starting on May 31, 2027. Return flights from Ibiza to Newark will begin June 1, 2027, marking the airline as the only U.S. carrier planning nonstop service to Ibiza.

Details on Aircraft and Configuration

United will deploy its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft for this seasonal transatlantic route. The A321XLR is a single-aisle plane tailored for long-haul flights, combining range and efficiency for routes with moderate seasonal

demand. The aircraft will feature 32 premium seats, including 20 United Polaris suites equipped with privacy doors and 12 Premium Plus seats. Additional amenities include 4K OLED entertainment screens with Bluetooth connectivity and Starlink Wi-Fi access for MileagePlus members.

Flight Schedule and Seasonal Operations

Flights from Newark to Ibiza will operate four times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until October 7, 2027. Return services from Ibiza to Newark will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, ending October 8, 2027. The route is currently scheduled as a seasonal service covering Ibiza’s peak summer tourism period and is subject to government approval.

Significance of United’s Nonstop Service

This

route represents the first direct scheduled air connection between the New York metropolitan area and Ibiza, removing the need for connecting flights through European hubs such as Madrid, London Heathrow, or Barcelona. United’s Newark hub will thus serve as a strategic entry point for travelers from across the United States to Ibiza. The airline’s choice to operate the A321XLR enables it to economically serve this demand-variable route without requiring larger wide-body aircraft typically used for transatlantic flights.

Growth in U.S. Demand for Ibiza

Ibiza’s tourism authorities have reported a more than 21% increase in U.S. visitor numbers in May 2026 compared to May 2025. Online search

interest from the U.S. for Ibiza exceeded 4.9 million queries in the first half of 2026. Between April and October 2025, North American visitors accounted for approximately 5.2% of Ibiza’s international arrivals. These trends have driven the strategic objective of expanding direct access to the U.S. market.

Broader Expansion of United’s International Network

Ibiza is one of ten new international destinations United is adding in its largest-ever summer 2027 growth initiative. From Newark, new routes will also launch to Valencia, Marseille, Terceira, Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, and Luxembourg. Additionally, United is resuming summer services to destinations launched in 2026, including Split, Bari, Glasgow, and Santiago de Compostela.

United has added 58 international destinations since 2017 and now serves more than 160 worldwide.

Impact on Travelers and Ibiza Residents

American travelers will benefit from a convenient nonstop option between Newark and Ibiza, eliminating previous requirements to connect via European airports. This direct service may encourage travelers to select Ibiza as a primary destination rather than a stopover on a European itinerary. Ibiza residents and visitors will gain direct seasonal access to the New York metro area, with flights enabling connections onward through United’s extensive Newark hub network. The service covers Ibiza’s core tourist months, supporting both leisure and business travel.
