American Airlines announced it will begin operating seven new international routes in 2027, expanding its global network with daily flights on all new summer itineraries. Tickets for these routes will be available starting August 31, 2026, via the airline’s website and mobile app.
Philadelphia Gains Three International Destinations
Philadelphia Airport will become a hub for new international service to Porto, Portugal; Vienna, Austria; and Reykjavik, Iceland. Flights from Philadelphia to Porto will launch on March 28, 2027, followed by Vienna service on May 6 and Reykjavik on May 27. Porto and Vienna represent entirely new additions to American Airlines’ network. American will be the sole
U.S. carrier flying to Vienna. The Philadelphia to Vienna route will operate seasonally, extending through early January 2028.
Expanded Service From JFK Includes Amsterdam, Nice, and London
From New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, American Airlines will introduce nonstop flights to Amsterdam starting March 28, 2027, and to Nice, France, beginning May 6. A fourth daily flight will be restored on the JFK-London Heathrow route on March 28, boosting the total daily flights between the two cities to as many as 14 when combined with British Airways’ services.
New Routes From Chicago and Charlotte; Seasonal Flights Return Early
American Airlines will launch service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Tokyo Narita on March 19, 2027, targeting the increased
travel demand during Japan’s cherry blossom season. The airline will also introduce a new Charlotte to Barcelona route commencing May 27, 2027. Additionally, seasonal routes from Charlotte to Paris and Miami to Milan will return earlier than usual, starting March 4, 2027, in response to growing spring travel demand to Europe.
The airline is concurrently upgrading the inflight experience across its fleet of over 800 narrowbody aircraft. Enhancements include 4K entertainment displays, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB-C charging ports, as part of a broader effort to improve passenger comfort and attract premium travelers.
Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of
Network and Schedule Planning, stated the expansion aims to provide destinations for all travel tastes. He indicated that the network growth combined with onboard product investments increases the reasons for travelers to choose American Airlines for international travel.
