United Airlines will introduce the first scheduled nonstop air service between the New York metropolitan area and Ibiza, Spain, beginning May 31, 2027. The new route will operate between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Ibiza Airport (IBZ), a service previously unavailable as travelers required European connections.

Flight Schedule and Seasonal Operation

The Newark to Ibiza route will run four times weekly, with departures on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Return flights from Ibiza to Newark will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays starting June 1, 2027. The seasonal service extends through October 7 from Newark and October 8 from Ibiza, covering the island’s

peak summer travel period.

Aircraft and Cabin Configuration

United will deploy the Airbus A321XLR for the Newark-Ibiza route. This single-aisle, long-range plane accommodates 32 premium seats, consisting of 20 Polaris suites featuring privacy doors and 12 Premium Plus seats. The A321XLR is designed for long-haul, lower-demand transatlantic routes like this seasonal connection.

Market Growth and Strategic Importance

Ibiza’s US visitor market has grown substantially, with a reported 21% increase in May 2026 compared to May 2025. More than 4.9 million online searches from US users occurred in the first half of 2026. North American travelers comprised 5.2% of Ibiza’s international visitors during April to October 2025. Juan Miguel Costa,

the director of tourism for Ibiza, emphasized the strategic focus on expanding the American market by offering a direct connection.

Traveler Benefits and Booking Information

This nonstop connection eliminates the need for transfers through Madrid, London Heathrow, or other European hubs historically required to reach Ibiza from the United States. Passengers will access United’s broader network at Newark for onward travel across North America. Tickets for the flights are available for purchase via United Airlines’ website and app.

United Airlines’ International Network Expansion

The Newark-Ibiza flight is part of United’s largest international expansion to date. In summer 2027, United will launch 10 new international routes across Europe and Asia, including

new links from Newark to Valencia, Marseille, Terceira, Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, and Luxembourg. Additional routes outside Newark include Okinawa from San Francisco and Toulouse from Washington Dulles.
