Swiss Airlines canceled 27 flights to and from Zurich Airport on Friday, August 28, 2026, as severe thunderstorms disrupted airport operations. The weather conditions forced the airline to adjust its schedule significantly.

About 3,100 passengers were affected by the cancellations. Some flights experienced delays of up to three hours as repeated lightning strikes near Zurich Airport forced temporary suspension of apron operations for safety reasons.

Operational disruptions at Zurich Airport

Ground operations at Zurich Airport were intermittently brought close to a standstill during the storms. The severe weather also caused a substantial reduction in the number of takeoffs and landings permitted, limiting airport capacity throughout

the day.

Swiss Airlines stated it was actively working to stabilize flight operations, maintain connections where possible, and minimize passenger disruption amid the ongoing weather challenges.
