Swiss Airlines canceled 27 flights to and from Zurich Airport on August 28, 2026, impacting approximately 3,100 passengers. The cancellations accompanied ongoing disruptions throughout the day, with additional flight cancellations possible as adverse weather conditions persisted.

Severe Thunderstorms Disrupt Flight Operations

Severe thunderstorms with repeated lightning strikes near Zurich Airport forced multiple temporary suspensions of apron operations for safety reasons. These weather conditions significantly hindered airport activity and restricted the number of permitted takeoffs and landings.

Delays and Ground Operations Impacted

Flight delays extended up to three hours due to the repeated halts in apron activity. Ground operations were intermittently brought near to a standstill, causing knock-on delays across arriving

and departing flights at Zurich Airport.

Swiss Airlines reported it was actively working to stabilize operations and maintain passenger connections where possible while aiming to minimize further disruption throughout the day.
