The cancellations and itinerary changes result from record low water levels caused by a persistent drought, extreme temperatures, and limited rainfall in Europe since early July 2026. The Kaub section on the Rhine in Germany, a critical navigation point, is notably affected by these conditions, restricting cruise operations and commercial shipping.
Passenger Options and Compensation
Passengers affected by cancellations can re-book alternative Riviera Travel holidays for 2026 or 2027, select other cruises
on rivers such as the Douro, Seine, or Rhône, or choose escorted tours within Europe or worldwide. If the alternative holiday is lower priced, Riviera Travel will refund the difference; if more expensive, the company will contribute £250 per person towards the additional cost. Customers who opt for a full refund will also receive a 15% Welcome Home Offer, increased from the standard 10%, valid for six months on future European river cruises.
