Vietjet will begin twice-weekly flights between Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) and Ho Chi Minh City in January 2027. The low-cost carrier will operate Airbus A330 aircraft with seating for up to 377 passengers, increasing the frequency to three weekly flights from March 2027.

Vietjet becomes the fifth airline to commit to Western Sydney International Airport, joining Jetstar, Qantas, Air New Zealand, and Singapore Airlines. Vietjet’s sister airline, Vietjet Thailand, intends
to start four weekly flights linking Western Sydney and Bangkok from November 2027, subject to regulatory approval. This will mark Vietjet Thailand’s first service to Australia.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the direct flights from Western Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City would strengthen Australia-Vietnam relations and enhance opportunities for Western Sydney. He remarked, “Western Sydney deserves an airport with global connections, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.” Albanese also highlighted how the new route will promote tourism and trade.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King described the announcement as “a sign of the momentum we’re seeing build at Sydney’s
newest airport,” noting that testing and terminal preparation were underway with 76 days remaining before passenger services start.
NSW Tourism Minister Steve Kamper said the new Vietjet flights signal an “incredibly exciting time for local tourism, businesses and jobs,” linking the development to the airport’s imminent opening.

The Ho Chi Minh City service is supported by the NSW Government’s Take-Off Fund. Passenger flights at Western Sydney International Airport, also known as Nancy-Bird Walton Airport, are scheduled to begin in late October 2026, approximately 76 days after the announcement on August 10, 2026.
