Vietjet confirmed it will launch twice-weekly flights between Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) and Ho Chi Minh City starting January 2027. The airline will increase frequency to three weekly flights from March 2027, using Airbus A330 aircraft with capacity for up to 377 passengers per flight.
Vietjet Thailand Plans Bangkok Flights
Vietjet Thailand, a sister carrier, intends to start four weekly services from WSI to Bangkok in November 2027, pending government approvals. This announcement marks Vietjet Thailand’s planned debut in the Australian market.
Western Sydney Airport Prepares for International Traffic

Government Endorsements Support New Routes
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Vietjet’s Ho Chi Minh City flights, stating, “Western Sydney deserves an airport with global connections, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.” He added the routes will strengthen Australia-Vietnam ties, boost tourism and trade, and create opportunities for Western Sydney. Federal Minister Catherine King highlighted terminal preparations, saying, “Testing at the terminal, fit
out and final touches are underway to get it ready to welcome the new passengers.” NSW Tourism Minister Steve Kamper emphasized the benefits for local tourism, business, and employment.
Political and Tourism Significance
The announcement coincided with the arrival of Vietnam’s President To Lam in Sydney. The NSW Government supports the Ho Chi Minh City route through its Take-Off Fund. Vietjet inaugurated Australian operations in 2023 with flights to Melbourne and has since expanded its network, capitalizing on Australia’s increasing travel demand to Vietnam, which has seen double-digit growth in Australian visitors recently.
