Delta Air Lines has permanently discontinued nonstop flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to three major U.S. hubs following a pause in June 2026 caused by rising fuel costs and other expenses. The affected routes were confirmed canceled between July 27 and 31, 2026, as part of the airline’s routine network planning.
Passengers impacted by these cancellations are being contacted directly by Delta and may be rebooked on flights departing from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), which still maintains nonstop service to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis. Customers who prefer may also receive full refunds. Travelers are advised
to review their itineraries via the Fly Delta app or online account for automatic notifications and to consider ground transportation since LGA differs from JFK.
Starting November 21, 2026, Delta will launch a new nonstop route from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers. The route will be operated with Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jets, expanding Delta’s presence from one of the East Coast’s fast-growing airports to a popular Florida destination.
Delta has also introduced “Basic fares” for first class and business class cabins, offering select premium amenities at lower price points.
This Basic tier provides benefits such as Zone 1 boarding and access to lie-flat seats on certain aircraft, potentially saving passengers up to $200 compared to regular first-class tickets.
Joe Esposito, Delta’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said, “This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products.” A Delta spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience caused by the route cancellations and confirmed affected customers are being contacted directly about alternative options.
