National Rail confirmed that train lines between Stevenage, Moorgate, London Kings Cross, and London St Pancras International were closed. This included the cancellation of all Grand Central services operating to and from London Kings Cross. Great Northern routes between Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross, as well as between Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City and
Moorgate, were also disrupted. Additionally, all Hull Trains, LNER, and Lumo services running to and from London Kings Cross were affected. Thameslink routes between Cambridge and Brighton, and between Peterborough and Horsham, faced potential delays and cancellations.
Delays, diversions, and rail replacement services
Passengers experienced cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes, with train operations suspended between Stevenage and London Kings Cross until at least midday on August 1. Some train services were diverted via Hertford North as emergency teams managed the incident. Limited rail replacement bus services were deployed between Peterborough and London Kings Cross, including two 50-seat Keyline Coaches scheduled to depart Peterborough
around 10:00 AM and one 80-seat Chaseside double-decker bus at London Kings Cross expected near 10:30 AM.
