On July 16, 2026, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter medevaced a 51-year-old female passenger from the Bahamian-flagged Carnival Luminosa cruise ship approximately 45 miles offshore of Humboldt Bay, California, after she developed symptoms consistent with a stroke.
Coast Guard Response and Medevac Operation
Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay watchstanders received the medical assistance request at about 5:10 p.m. and dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay to the vessel. The aircrew conducted the hoist operation despite adverse conditions, including winds near 40 mph and seas measuring 8 to 10 feet.
The passenger was successfully airlifted from the Carnival Luminosa and transported
to Mendocino Coast Hospital in Fort Bragg, California, for further treatment.
Passenger Condition and Ship Itinerary
Authorities reported the woman to be in stable condition following the medical evacuation. After transferring the passenger to the hospital, the Carnival Luminosa resumed its planned itinerary without further interruption.
