The Alberta government has announced a comprehensive passenger rail master plan covering a 30-year horizon. This long-term strategy intends to guide the development of passenger rail infrastructure and services across the province.

At the forefront of this plan is a direct rail connection linking downtown Alberta cities with their major airports. Designated as the initial key project, this downtown-to-airport rail service aims to facilitate more convenient access for passengers traveling by rail to and from airports.

The unveiling of the master plan followed a delay of nearly one year, reflecting an extended development process before making the strategy public. The

plan is a foundational step toward the potential implementation of high-speed rail services intended to enhance regional transit connectivity within Alberta over the coming decades.
