The TGV-M, France’s latest high-speed train model, has obtained market authorization from the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA). This approval is a mandatory regulatory step that permits the train’s entry into commercial passenger operation within the European Union.
SNCF plans to launch passenger services using the TGV-M, which offers a higher seating capacity than previous iterations of the TGV fleet. The train also aligns with SNCF’s efforts to promote a more environmentally conscious mode of high-speed rail travel by incorporating greener technologies.
Advancing French High-Speed Rail
The authorization by ERA marks the beginning of a new chapter for SNCF’s high-speed rail services in
France. While specific operational timelines or detailed technical information about the train have not been publicly disclosed, the authorization confirms that the TGV-M meets the necessary safety and interoperability standards required across European rail networks.
This step supports SNCF’s broader strategy to modernize its fleet with more efficient trains capable of transporting greater numbers of passengers while minimizing environmental impact.
