On July 4, 2026, major airports throughout the United States experienced significant disruptions, with 169 flights cancelled and 2,952 delayed. These interruptions affected a broad range of departures and arrivals on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Envoy Air, and SkyWest were among the carriers most impacted by these cancellations and delays. The combination of mainline and regional airlines faced widespread operational challenges.

Key Airports and Cities Affected

Air travel was disrupted across several major hubs including Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles International, Miami International, Phoenix Sky Harbor, and airports serving the New York metropolitan area. Both

domestic and international flights were impacted by the disturbances at these locations.

Passengers at these airports faced cancellations or lengthy waits as their flights were either grounded or significantly delayed. These disruptions contributed to travel disruptions nationwide on this holiday that generally sees heightened passenger volumes across the US aviation system.
