WestJet has announced the cancellation of its direct spring flights from St. John’s Airport (YYT) to Tampa and Orlando, Florida, effective for the 2027 season. The decision removes direct travel options on these routes for travelers departing from St. John’s starting spring 2027.

According to a statement shared with VOCM on July 16, 2026, WestJet made the call due to insufficient passenger demand observed during the most recent season. The airline indicated the cancellation decision was not taken lightly and cited the lack of support for the flights from St. John’s as the primary factor.

WestJet recommends that passengers seeking

travel to Tampa or Orlando from St. John’s instead connect through Toronto Pearson Airport. This rerouting provides travelers with access to Florida destinations despite the discontinuation of direct services.

The announcement coincides with growing labor tensions at WestJet, where flight attendants may strike in fewer than three weeks if contract negotiations fail. The union’s main concerns include allegations of unpaid work by the airline’s cabin crew.

Upcoming WestJet Flight Attendants Labor Concerns

WestJet faces a potential labor dispute as its flight attendants consider strike action if no contract agreement is reached soon. The union highlights claims of unpaid work among the cabin crew, exacerbating tensions with

the airline.
