Vietjet will begin operating flights between Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) and Ho Chi Minh City starting January 2027 using Airbus A330 aircraft with a capacity of up to 377 passengers.
Initial services are scheduled to run twice weekly, rising to three weekly flights from March 2027. Vietjet Thailand plans to commence four weekly flights between WSI and Bangkok from November 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
Vietjet becomes the fifth airline to confirm routes to WSI, joining Jetstar, Qantas, Air New Zealand, and Singapore Airlines. Fiji Airways has tentatively proposed a route between WSI and Nadi starting June 2027 but
has not formally confirmed the service.
Passenger flight operations at Western Sydney International Airport are set to begin in 76 days from August 10, 2026, with terminal testing and preparations ongoing to ensure readiness.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, “Western Sydney deserves an airport with global connections, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.” He added that the new direct flights to Vietnam will strengthen bilateral ties and generate tourism, trade, and opportunities for Western Sydney.
Federal Minister Catherine King described the Vietjet announcement as “a sign of the momentum we’re seeing build at Sydney’s newest airport,” noting ongoing terminal fit-out
and testing ahead of the airport’s opening to passengers.
NSW Tourism Minister Steve Kamper stated the new airport and routes represent an exciting period for local tourism, business development, and employment.
Vietjet entered the Australian market in 2023 with flights to Melbourne and has since expanded to multiple destinations. Vietnam continues to be one of the fastest growing outbound destinations from Australia, with consistent double-digit increases in Australian visitors.
With Vietjet’s new routes, Western Sydney International Airport is reinforcing its goal to become a key international gateway for the region, supported by multiple airlines expanding their services from the facility.
