Uganda Airlines launched scheduled nonstop flights to Accra, Ghana, and Kigali, Rwanda, on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, expanding its African route network and supporting Entebbe International Airport’s role as a regional hub.
Expansion of West and East African Connections
The new Accra service adds to Uganda Airlines’ existing Lagos route, enhancing connectivity in West Africa. The Kigali route links Uganda and Rwanda, two of East Africa’s fastest growing economies, providing direct access between them and connections through Entebbe International Airport to a wider network across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Boeing Fleet Expansion and Framework Agreement
Uganda Airlines ordered eight Boeing passenger aircraft, comprising four 737-8 MAX and four 787-9 Dreamliners,
marking its first direct purchase from Boeing. The order was announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom following the signing of a framework agreement at State House, Entebbe, with President Yoweri Museveni present. The agreement includes potential future acquisition of two converted Boeing freighters to expand dedicated cargo services.
Impact on Passengers and Cargo Services
The Accra and Kigali routes facilitate cargo transport of fresh produce, manufactured goods, and other time-sensitive items between East and West Africa. They also increase passenger options, supporting business, tourism and trade across the continent through Entebbe International Airport.
