Hotels across the UAE are experiencing weak performance in the fourth quarter of 2026, as occupancy rates remain below expectations despite some increases in room rates. The hospitality sector continues to struggle with a gap between recovering room rates and slower improvements in occupancy levels, delaying full market recovery.

Recovery Projections by Market

Industry leaders forecast that travel volumes from Europe and the United States will fully recover only by the second quarter of 2027. Some neighboring markets to the UAE are expected to rebound earlier, by the first quarter of 2027. However, key source markets such as Germany may not return to pre-disruption

travel patterns until the fourth quarter of 2027.

Victor Abou-Ghanem, CEO of Story Hospitality, which manages Dubai’s H Hotel and Abu Dhabi’s Al Maya Island & Resort, stated, “We expect a full recovery of travel volumes from Europe and the U.S. in the second quarter of 2027.” Phillipa Harrison, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, indicated that while some neighboring markets will return by the start of 2027, “other markets like Germany might not be back until Q4 next year. That last 10 to 15% takes a little while to come back. And advisories don’t help either.”

Occupancy vs. Rate Recovery

The current slow recovery in hotel occupancy compared to room rate increases is a significant factor impeding full performance restoration for UAE hotels. This discrepancy suggests that although hotels can charge higher rates, the lower number of booked rooms restricts overall revenue recovery. Local tourism officials have indicated that improved booking volumes are unlikely before the end of 2026.

Industry Stakeholders and Expectations

Executives from leading hospitality entities have aligned on the timeline for recovery. Saurabh Tiwari, vice president at Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), has similarly projected that hotel business will not revert to the levels seen in 2024 and 2025 until the

last quarter of 2027. The statements from hotel operators and tourism authorities reflect consensus that 2026 will not bring complete normalization and that gradual improvements will continue into 2027.
