Naha Airport in Okinawa was completely closed on June 1, 2026, in response to Typhoon Jangmi, which brought heavy rains and strong winds to the region. This decision was made to ensure safety amid severe weather conditions associated with the typhoon.

Around 173 flights were cancelled on this date, with an additional 20 flights facing delays. The disruptions affected multiple airlines including Japan Airlines, Japan Air Commuter, and Japan Transocean Air, impacting scheduled operations significantly.

The cancellations and delays affected important air routes connecting Tokyo, Osaka, Kagoshima, and Fukuoka in Japan, as well as flights between Okinawa and Taiwan. These

widespread service interruptions reflect the typhoon’s impact on regional air travel infrastructure.

Travelers in Okinawa and surrounding East Asian areas are recommended to keep abreast of the latest updates from airlines and airport authorities. Officials have issued safety alerts as this period marks a peak phase in the regional typhoon season.
