On October 4, 2026, Southwest Airlines announced the launch of three new nonstop flights departing Austin-Bergstrom International Airport starting June 3, 2027.
New International Routes from Austin
The airline will begin seasonal nonstop service twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays to Nassau in the Bahamas, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and Liberia in Costa Rica. These flights will operate from June 3 through August 2, 2027.
Exclusive Flight Options and Tickets Availability
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will be the only airport offering nonstop flights to all three of these tropical destinations in summer 2027. Tickets for these routes are currently available for purchase.
Additional Routes and Schedule Expansion
Alongside these new international services, Southwest plans increased
domestic flights from Austin to Savannah, Bozeman, and Sarasota, plus the return of daily seasonal flights to Portland. Saturday service to San José, Costa Rica will start March 13, 2027, while service to Puerto Vallarta and San Juan will also resume.
The airline expects approximately 143 departures on peak days at Austin-Bergstrom next summer, marking the largest schedule it has operated there.
Official Statements on Connectivity and Growth
Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, stated that Southwest has been a key partner in expanding air service at the airport. She noted, “These new international routes to the Caribbean and Central America, along with expanded domestic
service, strengthen our region’s connectivity and provide more options for both business and leisure travelers.”
Southwest vice president of network planning Daniel Jones said, “We are thrilled to bring this new service to Austin, where we have been the hometown carrier in the Texas state capital for nearly 50 years.”
Impact on Travelers
These new nonstop flights provide passengers with direct weekend travel options to tropical vacation spots, supporting weekend-to-weekend trips. The twice-weekly Saturday and Sunday schedule allows for convenient leisure travel but limits midweek departure flexibility.
