Southwest Airlines announced it will begin three new nonstop seasonal flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Nassau, Bahamas; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Liberia, Costa Rica starting June 3, 2027. These flights will operate twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays through August 2, 2027.
The airport confirmed these new nonstop routes are the only direct connections from Austin to Nassau, Punta Cana, and Liberia. Tickets for these services are currently available for purchase.
Alongside these international additions, Southwest will introduce seven other new or returning routes from Austin. The lineup includes domestic flights to Savannah, Georgia; Bozeman, Montana; and Sarasota,
Florida, as well as the return of daily seasonal service to Portland, Oregon. Southwest also plans Saturday-only flights from Austin to San José, Costa Rica starting March 13, 2027, and will bring back flights to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Statements from Austin Airport and Southwest Airlines
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport CEO Ghizlane Badawi described Southwest Airlines as a “longstanding and important partner in the growth of air service” at Austin. Badawi said the new Caribbean and Central American routes, together with the expanded domestic options, “strengthen our region’s connectivity and provide more options for both business and leisure travelers.” Southwest vice president of network
planning Daniel Jones expressed pride in serving Austin where Southwest has been the hometown carrier for nearly 50 years.
Travel Implications and Operations
The seasonal nonstop flights to Nassau, Punta Cana, and Liberia operate twice weekly on weekends, making them suitable primarily for weekend-based trips rather than midweek travel. The schedule offers convenience by providing direct access to Caribbean and Central American destinations without requiring connections.
Operational Scale at Austin in Summer 2027
Southwest expects approximately 143 departures from Austin on peak summer days in 2027, marking the airline’s largest operational schedule at the airport to date.
