Southeastern cancelled train services from 22 September 2026 after bedbugs were discovered in the drivers’ cabs of two trains based at the West Marina Depot in Hastings.

Isolation and Inspection Measures Implemented

Carriages on two affected trains were locked to separate the drivers’ cabs from passenger areas. The trains only remained in service while returning to a suitable location for inspection and treatment if necessary. Thorough cleaning of trains and stations is carried out regularly by Southeastern.

Official Statements on Safety and Cleaning

A Southeastern spokesperson said trains and stations are cleaned thoroughly so passengers can travel safely and with confidence. Oly Turner, head of drivers at Southeastern, said: “Cases have

been contained to the drivers’ cabs in only two of our trains and no bed bugs have been identified in areas for passengers.” He added, “When we receive reports such as these we check trains thoroughly before they are put back into service when given the all clear.” Turner also noted the strong cooperation from drivers during these isolated incidents.

Locations and Routes Affected

The affected trains are based at West Marina Depot in Hastings, which serves as the terminus for trains from London. Routes impacted by cancellations run via Battle, Tunbridge Wells, and Sevenoaks, covering Kent, East Sussex, and Greater London. No bedbugs

were found in any passenger areas.

Unaffected High Speed 1 Services

No bedbugs were identified on any High Speed 1 trains, indicating these services continue to operate without disruption.
