Royal Caribbean has extended the suspension of cruise calls to its private destination Labadee, Haiti, through June 2027. The company halted visits following ongoing security concerns in Haiti, affecting itineraries across multiple sailings.
Itinerary Changes and Guest Notifications
Passengers on select cruises, including the Legend of the Seas, have been informed about itinerary modifications. For example, the February 14, 2027 sailing departing Fort Lauderdale will no longer include Labadee. That six-night itinerary, initially planned to call at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Labadee, and Falmouth, Jamaica, now visits Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico instead.
Security Crisis in Haiti and Background
Royal Caribbean began suspending calls to Labadee in 2024 amid a
deteriorating security situation in Haiti, marked by violent crime, kidnappings, and armed gang activity. The country has experienced gang attacks on police stations, prisons, and government buildings. Although Royal Caribbean briefly resumed Labadee visits, with the last call in April 2025, the suspension was reinstated due to persistent instability.
Official Statements and Safety Considerations
A Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson told Fox News Digital on July 16, 2026, that the decision to extend the suspension was made to prioritize guest and crew safety. “As we continue to evaluate conditions in Haiti and our ability to deliver the best vacations responsibly, we have decided to extend the
suspension of ship calls to Labadee through June 2027,” the spokesperson said. They confirmed that affected guests received direct communication about itinerary changes.
Travel Advisories and Labadee’s Unique Status
The U.S. Department of State maintains a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory for Haiti due to high levels of violent crime, kidnappings, and insufficient law enforcement. Similarly, the Government of Canada advises Canadians to “Avoid All Travel” to Haiti. Labadee, located on Haiti’s northern coast approximately 130 miles from the capital Port-au-Prince, is an exclusive 260-acre private resort area fenced and secured by private personnel, accessible only to Royal Caribbean cruise guests. No other cruise lines
operate calls there.
Impact on Travelers and Ongoing Monitoring
The extended suspension affects passengers booked on all voyages scheduled to stop at Labadee through mid-2027, requiring alternative ports of call. Royal Caribbean continues to monitor Haiti’s conditions closely before determining when it can safely resume visits to its private destination.
