Royal Caribbean has extended its suspension of cruise ship visits to Labadee, Haiti through June 2027. The ongoing pause results from persistent security concerns tied to gang violence and political instability in Haiti.

Labadee Location and Features

Labadee is Royal Caribbean’s private beach destination located on Haiti’s northern coast, approximately six miles northwest of Cap-Haïtien, the country’s second-largest city. The resort area is noted for its white-sand beaches and attractions such as the Dragon’s Breath Flight Line, one of the world’s longest over-water zipline rides.

Safety Concerns and U.S. Travel Advisory

The continued suspension aligns with the U.S. State Department’s Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory for Haiti, which reflects

the security challenges posed by ongoing gang violence and political unrest. Royal Caribbean cited these conditions when deciding to prolong the suspension to prioritize guest and crew safety.

Operational Adjustments and Crew Support

Royal Caribbean has informed its guests directly regarding the suspension and corresponding itinerary revisions. The cruise line is actively supporting Labadee-based employees by assigning them to other roles across its fleet and various destinations during the suspension period.

Traveler Itinerary Changes

Itineraries that previously included Labadee have been adjusted to incorporate frequent replacement ports such as Grand Cayman, Grand Turk, Cozumel, and Nassau. Travelers booked on affected cruises will not be able to visit Labadee

through at least June 2027 due to these changes.

Humanitarian Efforts in Labadee

Despite the suspension, Royal Caribbean continues to maintain its commitment to the Labadee community. This includes ongoing humanitarian initiatives like monthly food donations aimed at supporting local residents around the destination.

Official Royal Caribbean Statements

A Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson said, “As we continue to evaluate conditions in Haiti and our ability to deliver the best vacations responsibly, we have decided to extend the suspension of ship calls to Labadee through June 2027.” The spokesperson added, “This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our guests and crew members in mind. We have

communicated these changes directly with guests.”

The company also stressed its commitment to employee welfare: “We remain committed to our Labadee team members and are working to ensure they feel informed and supported. We have identified positions across our fleets and destinations to place team members during this pause.” In regard to community support, the spokesperson remarked, “Our connection to the Labadee community extends far beyond our operations there, and we remain proud of the long-standing investments we have made in the region. We continue to support local communities through ongoing humanitarian efforts, including monthly food donations.”
