Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) are set to hold three days of strike action affecting TransPennine Express rail services in York and North Yorkshire on October 11, 18, and 25, 2026.
Routes Affected by TransPennine Express Strike
TransPennine Express delivers essential rail services through York connecting cities and airports such as Scarborough, Newcastle, Manchester Airport, and Liverpool. These routes will experience significant disruption during the strike days.
National Rail Statement on Service Reductions and Passenger Advice
A National Rail spokesperson confirmed that industrial action will affect TransPennine Express services on most Sundays in October. Trains will operate on a significantly reduced timetable on the strike days, with numerous
cancellations expected. Passengers are urged to only undertake journeys on these dates if essential. The spokesperson added, “Trains that do run will be subject to disruption and are expected to be very busy.”
Background and Ongoing Industrial Dispute
The planned industrial action follows an unresolved dispute between RMT members and TransPennine Express management. Strike action scheduled for October 4 was suspended to allow further productivity negotiations. RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey stated that the union will continue the dispute until a satisfactory resolution is achieved with the employer.
