On October 8, 2026, approximately 140 flights were cancelled at Brussels-Zaventem Airport due to a strike by ground handling staff employed by Alyzia. The walkout affects about half of the flights managed by Alyzia, disrupting airport operations significantly.

Flights handled by Aviapartner at Brussels Airport are not expected to be affected by the strike action. Passengers with flights processed by Alyzia should consult their airlines for updated information. Brussels Airport has stated, “We regret the inconvenience caused by this union action.”

Public Transport and Additional Strikes

Public transportation in Brussels is also expected to face disruption due to concurrent strikes. A public-sector strike involving rail

workers and public transit staff is planned from October 11 at 22:00 until October 12 at 22:00, potentially affecting SNCB-NMBS trains and STIB-MIVB metro, tram, and bus services within the city.

Additionally, trade union air traffic controller actions are scheduled overnight from October 8 through October 10, between 22:00 and 08:00, at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. These actions may cause flight delays or cancellations at that airport.

Official Guidance and Traveler Impact

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania has issued a warning about potential disruptions to both air and public transportation in Brussels starting October 9, 2026. Romanian travelers are advised to verify flight

and transport status before travel and allow additional time for their journeys. The Embassy of Romania in Brussels provides consular assistance and can be reached via an emergency phone number: +32 (0) 497 428 663.

Passengers with flights handled by Alyzia at Brussels Airport should expect cancellations and delays, especially on routes connecting to and from the UK. Those flying on Aviapartner-handled flights are less likely to experience disruptions. Public transit users in Brussels should be prepared for reduced service levels and possible station closures during the strike periods.
